ARNO
ARNO is a metadata management system. Metadata are labelled descriptions of documents and give potential reader a rough idea what the document is about without having to read it.
ARNO can be used to upload, store and retrieve metadata. The document itself can also be uploaded for storage and later retrieval. A document is part of a metadata record.
A document can be any file. It need not be a text file. Any file can be stored in the ARNO system. That includes audio and video files or data sets.
ARNO is a data provider in the model specified by the Open Archives Initiative (OAI). Every service provider that uses the OAI Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) can freely retrieve the metadata provided by ARNO.
